I picked my character based on hot chocolate. Her name is CoCo, i picked this because before i leave my house to do my daily event which is driving to school. I make hot chocolate before i leave to keep myself warm and to wake me up during the cold winters.

Band Installation

I felt like this project was harder than the last project. Everyone’s practice is different from each other and had to connection with each other so it was hard to brain storm ideas for this video. We decided to just wing it and do our best, so Kass’s practice is mediation, Jodi’s drinks coffee, Abby is making stars and organizing them then mixing them together and then for me I drive to campus. The point of the video is our little ghost man was meditating on the rocks until the earth starting shaking so he ran to his car to stay safe but then he ended up driving until a volcano, once the car ended it exploded which made him fly out of the volcano to be among the stars and bounce on the stars towards the end, the viewers find out he was just dreaming and when he woke up he grabbed some coffee.

Daily Practice 3

Lately, I haven’t been been in the mood to wake up in the morning to drive. This cold weather has been getting to me already and I’m not looking forward to winter at all.

Installation Proposal

Members of the band: Kass Liapis, Abby Preston, Jodi Shephard, and Kaylee Kemp

Group Idea: our group members will take an aspect from each of their sound sculptures in order to create an outdoor scenery. The scenery will include a car on a road surrounded by rocks and pebbles with stars changing overhead. The car will be able to drive down the road and into a tunnel with aspects of sound from each of our individual sculptures included. This idea is meant to represent a nature scene during a car ride.

Potential Sites: Against far wall with two windows near the dark room or any corner.

Member jobs:

Abby will be control of the stars

Jodi will be control of the tunnel and pebbles

Kass will be control of the rocks

Kaylee will be control of the car and the road

Materials and construction techniques: assemblage of aspects of our individual projects, string, hot glue, cardboard, tape, paint, cotton, and leaves.

Sound Sculpture

List: Sounds:

Keys, engine, heater, wind, music, blinker, whippers Textures: the metal, the steering wheel, the dash, the gas and break peddle, the dirt in the car, the smoothness of the outside of the car, the wheels.

The process of this project was difficult. My daily event is driving to college every morning. When I was first assigned this project, I was really lost on what to do. I felt it wasn’t explained enough and I didn’t know what I could do. I talked to the professors for some ideas, but I was still lost on what to make. I had a meeting with my adviser I told her what I was assigned to, she gave me an idea of making a hill to push down to make a sound of the car. Which I felt it was a great idea because I drive on many hills on my way to college. I decided to make a simple car to show the aerodynamics of the car. There’s metal inside the car that rattle to represent the engine. At the end the car crashes to represent the sound of the deer sitting the side of my door.

Daily Practice (2)

During this week, mornings the sky was getting darker and colder.  Recently its been snow in the air, which isn’t my favorite season.

Daily Practice 1

I take an hour of my time to commuting to and from college, which can drag me down physically and emotionally . I live in the middle of nowhere so there’s multiple ways to get to Alfred from my house. I decide to have my daily practice is to take a rotation of routes.  By driving to college in different routes it can give a positive impact on mind and body. A chance to absorb the atmosphere and to joy the nature. This week there were a lot of wild animals especially deer crossing the roads than normal probably because its hunting season.  One morning when I was on my way to Alfred, there were two deer crossing, so I slowed down to wait then moments later a baby deer ran into the side of my car. It freaked me out because I thought it damaged my car but thankfully It didn’t but that never happened to me before. Another morning, I drove on the same road and about the same spot a bear crossed In front of me. The bear was small from a distance I thought it was a large black dog but, when I got closer it was a bear, probably last year’s cub. Right now, the nature is beautiful because the trees are changing, colder weather, and the sun sets sooner.  This daily practice is helping me to be more pleased with the environment around me and making me explode more possibilities.

Title: Drawing Texture and Sound

This process is similar to the experimental class, we had an assignment to listen to music and draw how we felt about the song. In this class the textures and sounds from nature is very inspiring to draw, listen, and view. As i started to draw I was stuck on what to movement i should do for each texture and sounds. I decide to make a bold move so I didn’t think about it i just started to paint then used oil pastels. I felt that those two drawing materials was a good enough contrast to the piece.

TITLED: Group Manifesto Performances

As artists, we pursue expression and understanding we draw from our influences to develop a mindful narrative that results in a spontaneous action.

At first having a group of five people was difficult. Half of the group had work, I commute to and from Alfred. Having meetings and getting the ten documentation it was a little hard when people had a busy schedule. Everyone had a different idea for the video, but we all wanted to corporate all your ideas in one video and having it link together. At the same time, it had to relate to our group manifest.

Title: Pocket Collection

When a group of my friends walked around and on Main Street, there wasn’t a lot of people on the streets, so we decided to go into different buildings. We first went into the courthouse, no one was around some of us walked up the spiral chair there was a younger man that got snippy with us so we ended up leaving before we could ask what was in his pockets. We walked down the street to try at the Jet but there was a group that already asked everyone in the restaurant. We finally ended up at the Community Bank; there was an older accountant behind the desk waiting. My friends and I decided to walk up to her and ask her the nerve-racking question of what was in her pockets. She kind of gave us a weird look, so we explained how we are art students and in our foundations class we have an assignment for collecting things in their pockets. She gave us a more understanding look and gave us what was in her pockets. What she gave me was a crinkled yellow sticky note saying, “leaves are changing colors too fast get pics”. she went on by telling me that with her older years she’s very forgetful and she gives simple reminders to herself, so for the day after work she will but these stick notes in her pocket and she has a habit of putting her hands in her pockets so then she will read her reminders and actually do them.
